Jellyfish are AMAZING, Our Trip to the Aquarium: Part Two

Jellyfish are AMAZING, I mean have you ever watched Jellyfish? These photos are from our trip to the aquarium (see part one here). I could have sat and stared at them all day, however when you visit the aquarium with a toddler and her daddy you have to deal with their attention spans. I'm glad I snapped these photos so that I can stare at them as much as I want. In fact I think I might print and frame one- but I'm not sure which I like best! Thoughts?

It's really neat to watch them move themselves around the tank.

Our Trip To The Baltimore Aquarium, Part 1a

IMG_2088

On Cordelia's actual birthday, we went to the National Aquarium. Last year we took a family trip to the zoo. However, because of her current obsession with fish, we thought she might love a trip to the Aquarium- and man did she love it! At first she was a little overwhelmed by how big everything was, and how loud some of it was, but after about an hour she warmed up and was running around like a crazy kid saying "WOW!".

Due to the  fact that Brendon works normal 9-5, Monday through Friday hours, it always feels super special to see him in the middle of the day on (in this case) a Tuesday and we hope to take Cordelia somewhere really fun each year on her birthday and spend quality time together as a family. So I'm not going to bore you with words, I'm just going to spam you with photos because I think they say more than I could.

A whole shark tank and  this is the only photo that came out clear! Miss C was completely amazed by the sharks. Our second time past the tanks she stood and held up her dolphin stuffed animal and made it swim back and forth with the sharks.

Hope you come back to see part 2 tomorrow!

Two Fish. . .

IMG_1818

I told you all before about how I couldn't make up my mind on which fish fabric to buy so I ended up making two dresses- this is dress number two! I figured since she was getting two dresses  her party dress should be a real, over the top fancy dress. I think she likes it (it's hard to tell with a toddler but she twirled a lot and swooshed the tulle a lot so I think it was a hit).

The fabric is a cotton print by Michael Miller I purchased it from fabric.com; a website I am becoming obsessed with because it is super easy to search for exactly what want . I added an overlay of teal sparkle tulle to make it look like the fish were under water and then topped the dress off with some yellow ball fringe that Cordelia insisted on and yellow details to match. I just love how everything came together, a little over the top, but a little awesome.

One Fish. . .

IMG_1526

So, the other month Brendon and I had a really neat conversation with Miss C. I asked her what she wanted for her birthday and she actually answered! She thought about it for a bit and she told me that she wanted fish. This was the first time that she has ever expressed a real opinion and a real desire for something- something non food or need  related. It's neat to watch your kid grow up and have her own opinions- and be able to verbalize those opinions!

We asked her several times over the past couple of weeks and she is sticking to the fish thing- and when asked about a theme for her birthday party she again requested fish, yellow and blue fish to be precise. So began my search for yellow and blue fish fabric for her birthday dress! In the end I fell in love with two different fabrics and my very understanding, loving, husband let me get both. With the first fabric I made this maxi dress for her to wear to the Baltimore Aquarium on her birthday, and the other fabric I got for her party dress- I'll share that later on.

This underwater fabric came from Harts Fabric and if I remember correctly it's made by Timeless Treasures. I had never looked at or ordered from their website before but I was impressed by how fast they shipped my fabric and by the large variety of fabric that they have! I loved the fabric because of the realistic print and because it included sea turtles! I figured that because she is also obsessed with turtles that this fabric covered the best of both worlds. I was excited by how small scale the print is, I think it fits the tiny size of the dress well. Since is such a busy print I decided to keep the design simple, but with a cute button back and side pockets to give it a little bit of interest.
