Jellyfish are AMAZING, Our Trip to the Aquarium: Part Two

Jellyfish are AMAZING, I mean have you ever watched Jellyfish? These photos are from our trip to the aquarium (see part one here). I could have sat and stared at them all day, however when you visit the aquarium with a toddler and her daddy you have to deal with their attention spans. I'm glad I snapped these photos so that I can stare at them as much as I want. In fact I think I might print and frame one- but I'm not sure which I like best! Thoughts?

It's really neat to watch them move themselves around the tank.

This next type are pretty cool because they look like buttons, and you know I like buttons.

Our Trip To The Baltimore Aquarium, Part 1a

IMG_2088

On Cordelia's actual birthday, we went to the National Aquarium. Last year we took a family trip to the zoo. However, because of her current obsession with fish, we thought she might love a trip to the Aquarium- and man did she love it! At first she was a little overwhelmed by how big everything was, and how loud some of it was, but after about an hour she warmed up and was running around like a crazy kid saying "WOW!".

Due to the  fact that Brendon works normal 9-5, Monday through Friday hours, it always feels super special to see him in the middle of the day on (in this case) a Tuesday and we hope to take Cordelia somewhere really fun each year on her birthday and spend quality time together as a family. So I'm not going to bore you with words, I'm just going to spam you with photos because I think they say more than I could.

A whole shark tank and  this is the only photo that came out clear! Miss C was completely amazed by the sharks. Our second time past the tanks she stood and held up her dolphin stuffed animal and made it swim back and forth with the sharks.

Hope you come back to see part 2 tomorrow!

Two Fish. . .

IMG_1818

I told you all before about how I couldn't make up my mind on which fish fabric to buy so I ended up making two dresses- this is dress number two! I figured since she was getting two dresses  her party dress should be a real, over the top fancy dress. I think she likes it (it's hard to tell with a toddler but she twirled a lot and swooshed the tulle a lot so I think it was a hit).

The fabric is a cotton print by Michael Miller I purchased it from fabric.com; a website I am becoming obsessed with because it is super easy to search for exactly what want . I added an overlay of teal sparkle tulle to make it look like the fish were under water and then topped the dress off with some yellow ball fringe that Cordelia insisted on and yellow details to match. I just love how everything came together, a little over the top, but a little awesome.

Happy Birthday Little Fishy

IMG_2322

SO. . .sorry I have been absent from the blog, I have been kind of creativity hungover from Miss C's party! However, after a brief blog hiatus I am super excited to show you photos from what turned out to be (or at least I think it was) a really awesome second birthday party.

We wanted people to see the fish theme as soon as they pulled up to the house so we strung balloons on either side of the front walk to give the feel of water. Cordelia LOVED playing with the balloons- might have been her favorite part of the whole party.

Cordelia helped make the fish and seahorse decorations- we painted, colored, and glued tissue paper to the cutouts. It was a fun craft project for us, and gluing was a new experience for Miss C.

Streamers in three different "ocean" colors with a rainbow of jellyfish went in the front window.

My sister and I went a little nuts with fish themed food- it was a lot of fun! I bought the turtle platter almost five years ago and I finally got to have a party with a theme that matched it so I was super happy. We made:

  • Chocolate covered marshmallows with little blue sprinkles and tiny fish candies
  •  Chocolates shaped like star fish, whales, sea shells, fish, and sea horses
  • Sugar cookies in the shape of octopi, fish, star fish and turtles. I plan on sharing our recipe later on and I'm thinking about doing a tutorial on decorating them- would anyone like that?
  •   My sister even cut the fruit into turtles and stars!
  • And oatmeal cupcakes decorated with M&M's to look like yellow and blue fish

I love themes, I think it's the most exciting part of having a kid because there really is no reason to put this much work into a adult birthday party.

goodie

For favors we gave little bags with a homemade yellow chocolate fish "swimming" in a sea of blue M&M's

I had a lot of fun planning the party, and I couldn't have done any of it without my super wonderful sister. However, I think my hubby had the best idea when he ran out to get sand so the kids could play with the sand table. I know that Cordelia wont remember this party, but if she could I think that's the part she would remember out of everything!
