Today, in between watching comedians comment on the government shutdown, and reading articles about the government shutdown, and worrying about the government shutdown I searched Etsy for beautful plus size vintage dresses. It is difficult for me to find vintage in my size in stores, so searching Etsy is a form of torturous window shopping (torturous because I cannot buy anything at the moment). However, I decided to share some of my finds with you so you can marvel at them with me! I think #2 is my favorite (or maybe 5. . .or 6), but # 3 has the best name.

Wonderful Wednesday- Became a Thoughtful Thursday
SO I started writing this post yesterday- but after a day of going non stop I couldn't focus. Yesterday was go go go- dishes were done, errands were ran, the house was scrubbed (like really scrubbed, like cleaned the window air conditioning units scrubbed) mountains of laundry was washed- and put away (which is the hardest part) and a couple of episodes of Supernatural were watched. Today, so far, is just as busy. I sewed up an awesome dress for Miss C, we went on an adventure to the Aquatic Gardens (that post will be up Tuesday), picked up some things we needed from Target (and some things we didn't need, but couldn't live without) now it's nap time where hopefully I'll get more laundry and more dishes done, and then out to dinner with C's grandparents! But before all of that let me share some of my favorite things from the internet this week.
Earlier in the week, I got sucked into reading the Huffington Post blog section, and two articles really stood out to me. The first article, written by Joy Gabriel and titled Kate Middleton and the Mom in the Mirror is a compelling piece about the pressure society puts on new mothers to look like they had never had a baby- despite the fact that the way your old clothing fits shouldn't be anywhere close to the top of your list of things to worry about. In the article she talks about how hard it is to look in the mirror, how easy it is to see lumps and bumps and how hard you judge the bags under your eyes, and the spit up on your shirt. She used to fear glancing herself in the mirror, but instead she decided to look at herself differently, this quote is my favorite part of the article:
"I see a woman who knows that makeup is great but making a baby laugh is even better. That a chic haircut will make you feel like a million bucks but rocking a baby to sleep is priceless. That working out feels good but not half as good as the look in your child's eyes when you drop everything to read a book or play kitchen or just be together. That every time you have to choose between worrying about yourself and caring for your children it isn't a choice at all."
The second article was written by Galit Breen and discusses something I hadn't put much thought into Should We Teach Out Girls To Fight Back? She tells her own experience of listening to a mother tell her daughter to hit back at the kids that were pushing her around- that she didn't ever need to be a victim. I have to say, I agree. Sure we always want our kids to play nice with others, and be sweet and kind, but what if playing nice doesn't work? I think I totally support Cordelia hitting back. What are your thoughts?
On another note- I'm in love with this dress from Old Navy, and they are running a sale so it's 20% off! I'm trying to hold off and focus getting back to making the majority of my clothing again- but it's hard and I'm not sure I will be able to!
These shoes are another thing on my wish list- that is also on sale! They look totally comfortable and it would be nice to have a nice basic, match everything pair of flats.
Speaking of shoes, I am on a mission to find magic shoes. Cordelia is going to be a flower girl in September and I am trying to think of anything that will help her not be shy in front of all the people. So, we have been talking about "magic" shoes. I'm thinking yellow because she is obsessed with my yellow polka dot flats, but we will see.
Lastly, I've been window shopping (or whatever you call it when you window shop online) and the kids clothes right now are super super cute. Cordelia asked me to make her some shirts instead of dresses, and I'm thinking the style of the one on the top left would be great- I love that top just the way it is too because it has bows on it, and who doesn't love bows? I'm dying over these jackets from Target too- I have to start sorting out Cordelia's clothing to see if she needs any new coats, or sweatshirts, since she has grown like 3 inches since last winter, and if she needs any these are on my to buy list. I'm waiting with great anticipation for Miss C to keep her PJs on- I love this Little Mermaid nightgown, but I know I would find Miss C awake the next day totally naked. Right now she sleeps in outfits like on the bottom right with a safety pin in the neck so she can't unzip- but since she has grown all of hers are looking a little short in the body, so I'm eyeing some new ones.
I hope all are having a great Thursday!

Getting Over the Hump
This week is going pretty well in my house. We managed to get a lot done- lots of grocery shopping, errand running, planning. Nothing makes me feel positive like planning and Brendon and I are starting Paleo so I had a lot of planning to do (wish me luck, I'm going to need it). To top it all off Miss C had her two year check up yesterday, she is practically perfect in every way AND she didn't even flinch when the nurse stabbed her finger to get blood. So just in case you aren't having a very positive week, let me share some happy things with you!
I find it very exciting that threadless sells Disney villain shirts! I know they have had them for awhile now, but I am obsessed; they are just soo pretty. There are several I'm digging, but I especially love this "retro villains" shirt and the one entitled "The Kraken".
I saw this image pinned on pinterest and it spoke to me. Before I was a mom I used to judge parents all the time. I had no right to judge them, I didn't know them, I didn't know what kind of day they were having, or if their kid was normally a super well behaved kid and was just having an off day. I have to admit that sometimes I still judge other parents, and I have NO right to because last week that was probably my kid or last week that might have been me on my cell phone at the park.
Megan Francis address' in her post how we, as a society, feel the need to bash other moms using social media. She suggests that "we have a real opportunity to create a kinder and more supportive social environment by weighing carefully what we broadcast", I think this is great! Sometimes I feel like social media is so filled in negativity and hate, it's repulsive. Megan suggests we help change this by adding messages of support and remember that we have all been there before.
Had to share this one too, because hey, it's me. Everyone go read her post, I loved it.
Also, while you are checking out that post hop over to Edelweiss Patterns and check out her two blog posts on the New Women exhibit at the DAR museum (here and here). This is her photo by the way, I'm glad she was able to get such lovely photos of the exhibit. My best friend and I did internships working for the curator of costume and textiles at this museum. We both had the opportunity to help put this exhibit together and I cannot be more proud with how it turned out. It was such an amazing experience, and the most fun I have ever had at work. I hope to go back sometime next week to see it again, so maybe I'll have more photos to share on the blog, but until then go check out Katrina's posts or check out the exhibit itself, or look at the virtual exhibit, all great ways to see amazing historic garments.
P.S fun fact, we named all of the looks just for us, this look we called Molly as in the "Unsinkable Molly Brown" because her hat was titanic big.
It's been pretty rainy the past couple of days; so we have been going through a lot of changes of clothing and a lot of wet shoes because, Cordelia loves to be outside, and she loves to jump in the puddles. I'm not going to stop her fun, because I really am ok with her getting dirty and it's super cute how excited she gets when she splashes! She laughs and squeals and carries on and don't you remember how fun it was to splash when you were a kid? I mean, I puddle jumped well in to my twenties. The only thing, is I really wish she had rain boots, and as I started searching for a pair I could afford in my tiny budget I realized again just how fun rain boots are! I haven't found any yet in my budger (I really only have like $10 I could spend so I may not find them this season) but if I had a tiny bit more money to devote I would totally get one of these pairs! I can't figure out which is the cutest- the lady bug is so classic, the ballet slippers are so funky different, and Hello Kitty- need I say more?
Which leads me to another rant- why can't money grow on trees? I have a pair of hand me down rain boots that are perfectly functional, but how exciting are these! The pair on the left are great because every time I wore them Miss C would go "ish! ish!" in her cute little toddler voice and my heart would melt, and the pair on the right are just beautiful! Not to mention one of my good friends always says how peacocks really are my spirit animal. Oh well, if wishes were fishes...
I'm going to finish up with two videos! This first one is amazing and beautiful. It's about cool underwater animals- I've never seen anything so neat, it's under six minutes so there is no reason not to watch it.
and this last video is Jackson Katz discussing the very important point that women's violence isn't just a women's issue but it's a men's issue as well. I strongly agree with what he has to say here.
Have a happy Wednesday!

Hump Day Happiness
Hi guys! Sorry this post is a little late today- but better late than never right? It skipped spring here in the D.C area- today it was in the 90s! Ugh, way too hot for me, it makes me sleepy and groggy. I have been perking myself up by doing some online "window shopping". These are some of my top favorite things out there right now.
This beautiful bag from Modcloth. Such a great color- doesn't it scream of picnics, sundresses, and pure summer! (good summer, not sticky hot summer) It's also the perfect size. I carry everything but the kitchen sink in my bag so I love, and need, one with some size to it.
So my friend Meenu, wrote a post about big full maxi skirts- read it here- and I think I am now obsessed. So easy to style and super comfortable to wear. I love the bold colors and vivid print on both of these examples she gave. They are a little out of my budget right now so a nice full maxi skirt is going into my "to sew" pile...
H&M is one of the best places for fun, novelty, inexpensive kids clothes- how fun is this cat shirt and this pirate shirt?
Lets talk for a second about printed pants. Are you a fan? I know both of my sisters are reading this thinking I have lost my mind but I'm kind of digging these jeans. What are your thoughts on the matter? are they too out there?
I stumbled across a seller on etsy that makes these totally cool rings and I was super excited to share them with you. I couldn't find much about the seller (I kinda love learning about the sellers), but I'm digging the detail in these pieces. Their faces are unbelievable! Another great aspect about these rings is that you can order them to your ring size which is amazing if you have giant fingers like me and can NEVER find awesome novelty rings.
So happy Wednesday guys! Do you have anything you are dying over right now? Please share, I would love to check your finds out!

Over the Hump
Today is a good day, I'm not sure why it is but I promise myself that today, will be a good day. There are soo many things to be happy about,
It's starting to feel like spring! A little cloudy, and still a little rainy, but spring is here.
Listening to this piece of music always fills my heart with peace and joy, it's just magical.
"You’re an actual parent with limits. You cannot do it all. We all need to admit that one of the casualties specific to our information saturated culture is that we have sky-scraper standards for parenting, where we feel like we’re failing horribly if we feed our children chicken nuggets and we let them watch TV in the morning."
I stumbled across this article entitled "To the Parent's of Small Children: Let me be the one who says it out loud" It spoke to me, and I might have to read it weekly to encourage myself when I feel like I'm failing.
This quilt is beautiful! I am amazed that this is actually fabric- I cannot comprehend the talent it takes to make something so beautiful.
This painting by Wilhelm Schutze reminds me of Cordelia.
Look at this great viking map print fabric!
And I totally love these hot air balloons too.
Have a happy Wednesday guys- I hope it's a good one!

Hump Day Happiness
I can't believe it's Wednesday already! I feel like this week is going super fast. It's been a pretty good week so far in this household- low stress and lots of family time. I feel like today's post is more of a "Hump Day Happiness" post than a "Getting Over the Hump" post because I am just in a much better mood today. We were supposed to get hit by a huge snowstorm that turned mostly into rain, which was a bummer. However, I still got a half day from work, so hopefully, I will be able to finish up some sewing today! How is your week so far? What are you loving this week?
These videos are the best on youtube- my cats behave exactly like this so I can always relate.
This blogpost over at WOWbodyNOW really helped re-motivate me. I've been slacking when it comes to exercising and eating right- I just kinda lost focus and reading this seems to have helped focus me again.
“You don’t have to get a job that makes others feel comfortable about what they perceive as your success. You don’t have to explain what you plan to do with your life. You don’t have to justify your education by demonstrating its financial rewards. You don’t have to maintain an impeccable credit score. Anyone who expects you to do any of those things has no sense of history or economics or science or the arts. -- You have to pay your electric bill. You have to be kind. You have to give it all you got. You have to find people who love you truly and love them back with the same truth. But that’s all.” -Cheryl Strayed
Kaelah Bee (one of my favorite bloggers) posted the above quote in her Things I Love Thursday Post. It's always kinda awkward to me when people ask me what I'm doing with my life. Part of me always wants to be able to say that I'm doing something totally amazing, that makes tons of money- something that the person I'm talking to really thinks of as successful. As if the true measure of success is the size of your paycheck. I think we have to really evaluate what success is, is success having a big paycheck but hating your job? Or is success being able to say with confidence that you are a good mom- even if you can't afford everything you might want.
I spent several hours the other day combing fabric websites looking for novelty prints- I want to buy everything! Cordelia is really into fish and bugs right now- so I specifically looking for fish and bugs. I have to do some solid planning before I buy (I have way too much fabric) but I am looking forward to some new projects.
Lastly, I recently bought the Macklemore album on itunes, and I have pretty much been listening to this song on repeat.

Getting Over The Hump
Sometimes you need a pick me up to help you keep smiling- a funny video, an inspirational quote, pictures of puppies cuddling babies, and so forth. Many blogs feature posts of just such things close to the end of the week, but I often find myself searching for sunshine and happiness on Wednesday- aka the Hump Day. So here I am starting a segment of the blog to help you- and I- "Get Over The Hump".
I found this on Pinterest the other day and I couldn't help feeling that it was meant just for me. I'm making a transition in my life and I have these great big dreams and ambitions and I am trying to only surround myself with positive people so I don't doubt myself too much.
This video is amazing. I have to admit I cried, but I totally felt empowered by the end. It's just so beautiful you have to watch it.
Don't these just make you smile- they make me so happy (and a little hungry too). I can't wait to make some- first I have to make my smores cupcakes for this weekend. Don't worry, the recipe for those are coming up in a post soon.
Just how beautiful are her eyes?!
Isn't this pantry amazing! I just recently found Dina's blog (here) and I am in love- she is so creative and organized. I think that the day I have a pantry that looks like this will be the day that I can consider myself accomplished in life- I have a hard enough time keeping groceries in the house!
This last photo is of Cordelia. The other day we had absolutely beautiful weather so we took a walk. I am always amazed by how focused Cordelia is on the tiniest things. It is so great to be a mom.
