Happy Valentine's Day

For the most part I really like holidays (well except for Christmas because it's stressful and expensive BUT that is for a different post). I love the silly hearts and arrows associated with Valentine's day and who doesn't love chocolate and flowers? So Valentines is pretty fun in my book. This year I got even more excited for Valentine's day, after I saw this heart and arrow themed fabric for 65% off (and I had a 20% off coupon. . .). So a dress had to be made. 

It's a super lightweight cotton fabric from Joann Fabric. The bodice was cut with New Look pattern 6723- except I rounded the neck and lowered the back. The skirt is true circle skirt- with a slight gather on top, and pockets. 

Brendon and I were going to have a date night tonight, but since we got massive amounts of snow I don't think it's going to happen. So last night I put my dress on, styled it the way I probably would have worn it today if we were going out and dragged the hubby into the snow to photograph it. I hope one day I get better pictures of the dress to show you more detail- however, I know me so I don't have high hopes! I do however, hope you are all having a wonderful Valentine's day! 

What I Wore When...

I wore this outfit to Sarah's bridal shower, I hadn't meant to match the party but the dress I was working on was a flop and I had this fabric lying around so this dress was born and I am really thrilled with how it turned out. I paired the dress with a cardigan from Target- a couple of seasons old, and some fun polka dot yellow flats from Old Navy.  

I was so busy getting everything together that I couldn't take these photos before the party, so my hair is a little messy. However, since I almost never style it I was excited to have a reason to style it and I had to share. Next time I think I want to try to do two rolls instead of one. 

I made this dress using a very heavily altered New Look Pattern. I lowered the waist, took the shoulders up, and let it out in the bust. I also used some horse hair braid on the bottom to make the hem float nicely.

Cordelia insisted on taking her own outfit photos, it was really cute, and really funny. P.S her outfit is from Target.

I have been meaning to share this dress with you for awhile. I made it to wear to Cordelia's birthday party (with a wide black sash, and no shoes because I never manage to wear shoes inside) I also wore it for our trip to the aquarium, (with a teal belt, red flats and black cardigan) and lastly (so far at least) to Camila's graduation party when I finally managed to snap some pictures of it! 

It's made out of a super fun cotton fabric printed with jelly fish! I like that you really have to look close to see the jelly fish- which makes it less silly and theme-ey to wear to the aquarium. It has short sleeves, with little cuffs on the bottom, a pleated skirt, and pockets- because every dress needs pockets. Since I started sewing for Cordelia on the regular I find it more difficult to sew for myself! Everything is more difficult, and the thing with kid's clothing is that no matter what, they still look cute. I am not however, going to let myself slack on making my own clothes. I spent a year dressing in a dress code and I have to rediscover my own personal style again. 

I used Camila's graduation party as an excuse to put heels on. I opted for platforms because they are more comfortable, and these are the most comfortable, but I have to admit that I ended up barefoot so I could play in the sand with Cordelia. Oh well, maybe one day I will be able to really break out something besides flats and actually manage to keep them on the whole time.

 I haven't been doing many outfit posts recently for a couple of reasons. I haven't been wearing anything interesting- being a stay at home mom is rough that way, It's hard to think up silly names for the posts, and the format wasn't working for me. However, I have seen several bloggers out there doing "what I wore when" posts which feel super natural to me, so I'm going to give this a try. 

I think good days are summed up by good weather, maxi dresses and bare feet. Don't get me wrong, I love shoes just as much as the next girl and my closet is full of beautiful pairs but there is nothing like not having to put shoes on. Nothing to pinch, rub, agitate in anyway, and when you are barefoot it's always because it's a peaceful day. I mean, you would never be barefoot at work or in court for a traffic violation. 

I'm sure, if you read yesterdays post, that you know when this outfit is from, but just in case. I wore this on mother's day. The weather was amazing, bright skies, mostly warm but with a breeze making it still sweater weather. Perfect. We had lots of driving, and lots of eating ahead of us so I wanted to wear something comfortable, like pjs, but more put together. I picked this dress up from walmart of all places a couple of weeks ago and I think I wear it at least once a week. I can pair it with anything, and it's the most comfortable thing I have ever owned. Topped with my favorite purple sweater, a belt, and a necklace my grandfather made me (I added the one Miss C made me latter in the day as well) I was comfortable, relaxed, and still felt fancy. 

Toddlers don't always want to stay put for photos. 

But, sometimes she comes back to give me kisses. Have a terrific Tuesday everyone!  

Happy Mother's Day

I hope you all had a wonderful Mother's Day. We had amazing weather, ate yummy food, and saw some of my favorite people. To top it all off we also had a mostly, mild mannered, toddler! Which makes for a perfect day in my book. 

So, how do you feed a vegetarian mommy and a paleo mommy and keep them both happy? That was our 

big question when picking the menu for mother's day lunch. I ended up making this yummy asparagus quiche with spaghetti squash crust (minus the cheese, but man would it have been good with some cheese) and it seemed to fit the bill. With a sides of salad, fruit, spinach meatballs, and fresh green beans lunch couldn't have been more satisfying. 

Well, that is until my sister brought out her amazing paleo apple pie topped with paleo coconut ice cream. If I could eat this anytime I wanted I would never eat bread again. I'm telling you, the rest of the meal could have been terrible and this would have saved it! Ugh, I want another piece now just looking at this picture. . .

Mother's day was delightful because not only did we have good food, but we had good company. We were able to spend the day with my grandmother (top photo) and her best friend- my Aunt Alice (bottom photo). Aren't they just beautiful? If I can be half as amazing as them I will be happy. No article of clothing makes me quite as happy as a dress. I think they are beautiful in almost every shape, color, form and pattern; and they always make me smile. I bought this dress the other day at Target and I adore the small black and white horse print. I gravitate towards black and white patterns because normally I'm a big fan of mixing them. However, yesterday I was feeling under the weather and I decided to keep it simple. I threw on my favorite cardigan, tights because it was a tad cold, orange mini wedges for a pop of color and topped the whole look with my grandmother's crystal necklace.

On Sunday, Brendon and I went to see our friend's daughter in her school play.  She was amazing, I was so impressed! I have been craving spring lately, I'm tired of layering for warmth, and I'm tired of it being so gray and everything looking so glum, it kinda depresses me. When I'm feeling blah I really like to make an effort to dress super girly. Do you all have a go too look when you are feeling down?

Brendon looked so nice I just had to feature him in this outfit post as well. I love when he dresses up. He was also rocking some beautiful vintage suspenders but we didn't get a good photo of them- oh well, maybe next time. Have a happy Thursday, guys!
